MIKE THOMPSON, PRESS RELEASE
Former State Representative Mike Thompson has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Representative from Legislative District 59.
Rep. Thompson served two terms in the Utah State House. While there he was named Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee and Chair of the Child Welfare Legislative Oversight Panel, also serving on the Financial Institutions Task Force and the Utah State Sentencing Commission.
During Rep. Thompson’s service in the Legislature he was honored by the Utah Taxpayer’s Association with the “Friend of the Taxpayer” award, the “Hero on the Hill” award from the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities, the “Child Advocate” award from the Utah County Child Abuse Council, and the “ J. Reese Hunter Statesmanship Citation” for Conservative Political action.
Since serving in the Legislature and on the Orem City Council, Mike Thompson has not sat by while issues of importance needed to be addressed. Mike Thompson presently serves on the Utah Republican Party State Central Committee where he also is Chair of the Republican State Audit Committee, and sits on the State Republican Executive Committee. Mike Thompson also is President of the Utah Republican Assembly, a conservative organization dedicated to returning the Republican Party to its roots and the basic principles espoused by President Ronald Reagan. He also serves as Western Regional Vice President of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies.
“The families and individuals of Legislative District 59 have many concerns at this time. The economy, employment, education, health care and insurance, transportation and public safety are all issues on everyone’s mind. Everyone has had to tighten their belts to make ends meet and struggles to stay in their homes and keep their jobs. Many are unemployed and looking for work, or have lost insurance and other benefits. Others have to cope with cutbacks of their hours at work.”
At a time such as this and now more than ever, Legislative District 59 deserves experienced, effective, principled leadership. Mike Thompson declares Legislative District 59 a “No Socialism Zone.”
“My campaign and service is focused on protecting citizens from the burden of tax increases and unnecessary, unconstitutional State intrusion into their lives. I am focused on the issues we all face at this difficult time, and what people are most interested in; not on personal, mean or vindictive attacks and negative campaigning I have enthusiastically signed the Pledge of Fair Campaign Practices and will abide by those principles. I strongly urge all the candidates in this race to sign and live by the principles of decency, honesty and fair play stated therein. The good citizens of Legislative District 59 deserve no less than a dignified and principled campaign and election. Vist Mike's website at electmikethompson.com
